About Crystal Bay Nevada Real Estate
While most people are familiar with Incline Village in Nevada, Crystal Bay is an adjacent area that is steeped in history. Tucked within the rocky landscape, this part of Lake Tahoe offers dramatic eastern views. It straddles the border of California and Nevada.
The waters sparkle in awe inspiring blends of turquoise and deep blue. This area of Lake Tahoe is actually the deepest part of the lake. For this reason, the Crystal Bay neighborhoods often have the best lake views.
You will find charming lakefront properties and the exquisite Stillwater Cove condo complex. I've included a link below to a rare listing in this community. Homes wind through the rising mountains, offering a mix of contemporary and old Tahoe style architecture.
History of Crystal Bay
Crystal Bay has three casinos. Home to the Cal Neva Resort, this hotel was famous for the “Rat Pack” years when Frank Sinatra would entertain Marilyn Monroe and the Kennedys in the 50s and 60s.
During the 1920’s the old Ta Neva Ho was a speak easy and attracted socialites, debutantes, and mobsters. Today, it has become the Crystal Bay Club and Casino. Across the street, the Tahoe Biltmore was established in 1948.
As the years went by, the north shore of Lake Tahoe attracted a more outdoor type of customer. After the 70’s gambling was no longer as popular as it had been in earlier decades. The Cal Neva fell into disrepair during the latter part of the 20th century, and the Tahoe Biltmore was also in need of a facelift.
Renovation of Crystal Bay
The Cal Neva was purchased by Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison and has been completely renovated. The developers actually met with the Sinatra family for input on its renovation. Boulder Bay too, became a development that would change the Tahoe Biltmore focus from gaming toward wellness.
Recently, Incline Village and Crystal Bay announced the launch of the Incline Village Crystal Bay Association (IVCBA) that will serve as a platform to enhance communication among residents and businesses in the area. They will aggregate information on arts, non profit initiatives, and other events that affect the local community.
While Crystal Bay is famous for its past, the renaissance of Crystal Bay has tastefully integrated exquisite restaurants and wellness with gaming and entertainment. The Association is a great addition to the careful planning that has made Crystal Bay and Incline Village so rich in amenities and events.
